Designed to Work With Microsoft Visio
ProcessMaps builds on the rich capabilities of Microsoft Visio for visualizing and communicating ideas
and information and provides many additional features for designing, documenting, analyzing, and
improving business processes.
ProcessMaps uses a hierarchical approach to organizing process maps that allows users to easily view the
process at various levels of detail. This approach makes even the most complex business processes more
easily understandable and is a very powerful mechanism for:
- Developing a unifying view of how the overall business works as a system, and
- Understanding how all processes and tasks within the organization contribute to achieving the company’s overall business goals.
Microsoft Architectural Approach
ProcessMaps is designed specifically to work with Microsoft Visio and other components of the Microsoft architecture. It is built on the Microsoft “.Net” framework and is designed to use Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server as an optional document management system. It integrates seamlessly and transparently with Visio and allows the user to take advantage of and extend the many capabilities of Microsoft Visio for Enterprise-level Process-Mapping.
Process Reporting and Analysis Capability
ProcessMaps captures data about the process transparently as the process is being created in Visio and has a built-in reporting capability that provides a number of different reports for analyzing the structure and design of a business process. In addition, all of the data associated with a process can be exported to a Microsoft Access database for additional analysis capabilities.
Other Capabilities
ProcessMaps provides a number of other capabilities including:
- Responsibilities for the management and design of business processes can be assigned at various levels of detail down to an individual Visio page which could represent an entire process or a sub-process within a larger overall process.
- References can be used to associate a process task with any applicable requirements such as quality standards and reports are available to cross-reference these requirements to the process.
- Resources and Records can be assigned to individual process steps within a process. Resources and records are defined by a centralized database for the purpose of maintaining consistency throughout the process and reports are available to show how records are used within a process. This capability is very important to help companies develop effective resource management and records management strategies
- Attachments can be attached to any process step within a process. Attachments can be of any file type and can be located anywhere on the network that is accessible by the ProcessMaps.
- Documents and Data can be modeled in the process to improve document and data management
- Metrics can also be defined in the process and linked to external sources of metrics data
- Pop-up Bubble Text annotations can be attached to any process step to provide additional explanatory notes and comments.
System Requirements
The ProcessMaps Tool requires the user to have at least a standard license for Visio 2003 or higher. It requires Windows XP or more recent versions of Windows (Vista or Windows 7) with a minimum screen resolution 1024x768 pixels.
